Hunter's Mark is the first book I've read from V.S Morgan. It is a sweet and sexy M/M shifter read I finished in one sitting. Hunter an assassin is hired to take out Casey, but when he finds out the man is a shifter and in danger he goes into protector mode instead. The author did an outstanding job of showing the differences between the two men even down to their unique voices. While I thought the writing style was very good I would have liked this story to be fleshed out a little more. Both men were strong characters with their own haunted pasts, but the story seemed a bit rushed. While they were mates the "I love you" part happened fast. I guess that is a common problem. I also would have liked to meet Hunter's mom and sister. It felt like their could have been so much more to the story.

I enjoyed this story, particularly the characters, including Casey's dog, Miss Priss. The MCs' "voices" seemed authentic, and there was real difference between them, unlike some M/M romances I've read.
If I'd been able, I would have given 3.5 stars, since I thought Miss Priss was worth half a star. Overall, I felt this "book" needed to be about 30 pages longer to do it justice. The plot was fairly predictable, even taking into account that the story was based on a fairytale, but toward the end everything seemed rushed, including the sex scenes, and there were some confusing and unexplained elements. The villain was a bit too convenient, and the whole circumstance of his takedown should have been fleshed out more.
That said, I would still recommend this story - it's really much too short to be considered a book- because sometimes we all need a fun and fluffy read.
I loved this short, sweet story, and the easy way it slid into the paranormal world. I'm always a fan of secret communities with money, and I loved that Hunter and Rex worked for someone called Den Mother.
Casey is sweet as sugar and sassy as all get out. I kind of tipped the fact they were "mates" by the way the two of them thought about how the other smelled, but that's because I love shifters. I wasn't surprised by the swiftness of their love, since Casey was so very alone and Hunter so determined to remain aloof. Loved the way the story played out, and the sex was hot! This is the first story I've read by V.S. Morgan, but it won't be the last.
I was very happy with this story. I am not sure how it was recommended for me, I guess the computer knows me pretty well! I started on book 8, again, serendipitously but was a great stand alone novel. Now I have the anticipation of reading at least 7 other Beyond Fairytales of the series. But I really want to express my pleasure for this particular segment for the author's talent for character development, a sweet romance, and enough backstory , (inside a gay fantasy genre),to tie it all together. Fairytales are a great medium to get a good view of the different ways to look at life.
I believe that was a very important reason they were used within the oral tradition of passing on t the next generation the history and experctations to adhere to in proper morality of the group. The types of reimagined tales are more inclusive of diversity and options for our how live and love and provides hope that "It Gets Better" (thank you Dan Savage) continues to flourish. That was why I got into sifi and fantasy early in life because it was such that nothing is impossible as subject matter and alternative lifestyles were so integral a part of the story.
This was one of those random chances you take on a book you causally selected the sample to listen to. I had no great expectations even after hearing the sample and deciding to purchase it along with a couple other books. I actually forgot about it until I finished all B.A. Streke's Lonepine & Pack Rules series books from my Unlimited selections and was looking for another shifter story to read.
I remembered the sample was humorous so I started the book again and was immediately pulled back into the world of assassins & shifters. It's a modern story based on the Grimm's fairy tale "The Skillful Huntsman". I enjoyed myself so much I didn't want the story to end. The two MCs had such contrasting personalities that it's a miracle they not only found each other but could enjoy being together. One was small, very happy, a potter, craft selling, kind hearted, do gooder who shared a stand in the park to split expenses so they both could sell their wares, and who owned by a teeny fluffy spirited Pomeranian. The other was a big, buff, gruff, tough guy, former soldier turned assassin, who was stubborn, sarcastic, cunning, intuitive and fearless.
Their worlds violently collide one gorgeous sunny afternoon. What do you do when the man you were sent to kill doesn't fit the profile of the scum you're used to offing? What if his scent drives you crazy? What if his smile and laugh melt your frozen heart? How about if you discover someone else is trying to kill him? I loved this story. I will continue taking a chance on authors I've never read. The diamonds are worth an occasional lump of reading coal.
